She turned back and nodded quickly, she looked at him for a moment before pausing, “Take off your shirt” she said, thinking about how she could tare it into strips and wrap it around the wolf’s leg. It would do and she wasn’t about to take off her shirt or she would, only if it was necessary to help him. “I would do just about anything to avoid it a little longer”.
He took his shirt off instantly and handed it to her. ”Here.” He nodded looking at his furry friend. He couldn’t help but feel like he belonged out here in the woods more then he did back at the house with all the worrying. He looked at her and laughed. ”You know when I walked up to you I was thinking about running away, far far away from here.”
She tore a strip away from the shirt and began wrapping the animal’s leg, she was surprised at how calm the baby wolf was. She’d been near all sort of animals and most were never calm when someone was addressing their weaknesses. She smiled a little, her head tipping up as she nodded, “Yeah? So was I… hopefully you’ve changed your mind” she twisted the strand into a knot and sat back a little, the rain having soaked her.

He was about to run after her when he saw a baby wolf looking at him he looked up at the storm and then back at her. “Hey wait, I think this little one is hurt!” He called after her slowly approaching the pup who was sheltered only by a broad tree bend towards the horizon. he slipped under the tree crouching besides it seeing a giant cut across its back leg. “what do you say we avoid the house a little longer?”

“You really don’t know what’s going on yet do you?” He nodded looking at her jumping up and looking out at the rain, nothing too bad. “Feel like braving the rain one last time? I think there is something you should see at the house. It may have more then a few answers for you.”
She looked up at him, unlike everyone else she wasn’t sure if she even wanted answers. She looked out at the pouring rain as the lightening flashed again, it probably wasn’t safe to be in the forest during a lightening storm with trees all around. She stood up and nodded, “Let’s go” and with that she ran out ahead of him.

“Orgasmic food explosion in your mouth sounds more like it.” He grinned at her slipping off his sweater and wrapping it around her. Aiden knew he was more driven then happy his entire life but he never seemed to understand other people, and working hard gave him something to concentrate one. Now it was the end of the world and he just felt lost. “besides my awesome cooking skills, what are you looking for in your second chance?”
She half grinned, taking the sweater, “Thanks” she said quickly, she’d always thought chivalry was sort of dead. “To be honest, I’m not sure yet… I don’t even really know why I’m here. It’s a little obvious I don’t exactly fit in and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing or anything… it’s just, confusing. Why did I come here if I could be perfectly happy on my own somewhere else?”

“That was actually pretty good.” He chuckled hearing the thunder roll in the distance. He shook his head away from the thoughts of the old patient files that he found at the asylum as the lightning got more frequent. He smiled at her and nodded. ”When we get back I am going to make you some of the best cobbler you ever did taste!” He paused thinking of his old life and looked up at her grinning at the irony. ”It’s like you read my mind, well more like my regrets, I was so driven I missed out on all the small stuff, like sun, surf, and really great mexican food.”
“Not good… just too many John Wayne movies” she smiled, leaning back against one of the cave walls as she glanced at him. “It’s alright to be driven, my dad was super driven, had to be the best at whatever he did and I mean he was still happy for the most part. Feeling accomplished can be a pretty great feeling… but I get what you mean, you gotta live. Kinda funny how you realized this when the world is ending… kind of seems like we’ve all been given a second chance at something, doesn’t it?” she shivered slightly and wrinkled her nose. “My second chance of course only involves that peach cobbler”.

He folded his arms as he listened to her, she was different then all the other girls here, more independent, completely sure of herself. He sat down and shrugged letting out his southern drawl with a grin. ”Well Ma’am I come from the land where the peaches grow over there in the south east. I used to want to be a mechanical engineer, did everything I could to be the best at everything, including baking a mean peach cobbler, but seems like that’s all over now.”
She laughed, trying to reach into her depth to accomplish her own mimic of a southern accent, she fluttered her eyelashes. “My oh my, that peach cobbler sounds mighty good right about now” she laughed breaking out of it and nodded. “I was living with my mom, saving up to go to college in California near camp Pendleton. I have some friends who are there… or were there. Sun, surf and really great mexican food… ” she smiled at him, “I didn’t have huge dreams but the small ones can be just as good” she squinted as lightening flashed.

He stopped in his tracks thinking about the last time he was buy a cave but shook it off anyways quickly dodging into the small cavern with her. He could feel it in the air that something wasn’t right about this place. He looked over at her and she didn’t seem to notice so he shrugged it off leaning against the wall. ”So looks like we will be camped out in here for a bit, storm seems to have gotten worse. on the plus side we don’t have to hear the screams or moans of the house. Where you from Myla?”
She looked about the inside, it was small with a dusty blanket on the ground. Whoever had been there hadn’t gone back to retrieve it for a very long time, she stared out at the rain as it picked up, hearing lightening reverbate off the cave’s walls. She sat down on the cold floor, “Kind of everywhere, I’m your typical military brat… my dad was in the marines. But when this all happened I was living in Wisconsin, home of tons of dairy products and simple minded people” she picked at the bottom of her sleeves. “How about you?”

He chuckled jogging to pick up the pace letting the adrenaline take over as he jumped up kicking off a few of the trees actually kind of liking how the rain bounced along his skin mixing with sweat. He sprint past her raising his own brow mimicking her as he ducked around a few trees exploring what laid on the other side of the creek. He imagined no one dared go this far too scared from the curse of the asylum but he just felt free out here.
Never better, never better. She chanted in her head as she ran a little quicker, picking up his pace and grinning the whole time, a few laughs ringing from her mouth as she went. She sort of felt amazing, wasn’t even cold and that’s when she stumbled upon it, like boulders within the middle of the forest, large rocks pushed together to create an opening. A cave. She whistled to him to get his attention, couldn’t wait however and quickly ventured for the entrance.
